Twentyfour Seven
Aroview: The cockney director of low-budget miracle SMALL TIME, enters the ring with a few more bob and a larger cast, delivering a warm, yet tough-minded depiction of street-level struggle and strife, shot through with some inspired comedy.
A bullish Bob Hoskins plays a boxing enthusiast who sets up a gym to instill the feckless youth of his neighbourhood with a sense of purpose, but collides with various local agendas. Filmed in misty B&W and showcasing a host of talented 'unknowns', this is also counts as a lively return to form for Hoskins.
