Last Night
Aroview: Ingeniously crafted drama from actor Don McKellar, who stars here too, as one of six people spending the last six hours before the end of the world sorting out their final resolutions in Toronto.
Comparable to the best work of compatriot Atom Egoyan (EXOTICA), yet warmer and funnier, this effortlessly merges story threads that each tap into a recognizable private mythology about how one might spend their last hours on the planet. The director's coup, though, is in nailing both the urgency and complacency of pre-millennial tension, which elevates this modest drama to being something of a (hopefully not ignored) classic of pre-millennial cinema.
