Tango
Aroview: Flamenco film specialist Carlos Saura plies his trade on the eponymous native dance of Argentina.
Held together by a trifle plot concerning a dance director's artistic and romantic obsessions, a series of immaculately choreographed sequences employ theatrical backdrops of screens, silhouettes, and colour filters to enhance the dialogue of various tangos. The luminous, fluid visuals by revered cinematographer Vittorio Storaro typify the consummate professionalism all round, even if it seems a little too calculated to truly raise the goosebumps.
