A Soldier's Daughter Never Cries

USA 1998, 123 minutes
Dir. James Ivory
Rating: [M]
Genres: Drama

Topics: Period 1960s, Period 1970s, Rites-of-passage.

Aroview: Merchant/Ivory make one of their rare ventures into recent history, with a surprisingly eloquent depiction of an expatriate American family stoically surviving the turbulence of the 60s and 70s in Paris.

Kris Kristofferson is genial as the alcoholic patriarch, but acting honours go to Leelee Sobieski as his 14yr-old daughter. Based on the memoirs of Kaylie Jones (daughter of James 'FROM HERE TO ETERNITY' Jones).
