Four Days
Aroview: This accomplished 'existential thriller', based on 60s crime novel by John Buell, fuses genre conventions with weightier concerns about loneliness and paternal love.
A small time heist and double-cross goes awry but its aftermath (including a bag of loot) aligns the paths of several drifting souls - a hoodwinked gangster (Meaney), a free-spirited sexpot (Davidovich), a lonely-heart and an introspective 14-year-old (Zegers). Stirred into this evocative mix are the great outdoors of Quebec and a first-rate Ryuichi Sakamoto score.
