Psycho Beach Party
Aroview: Kicking sand in the face of John Waters’ latest efforts, this parody of GIDGET and other 60s beach party movies gets fabulous mileage out of sending up a bygone age of innocence.
Plays up the day-glo retro-kitsch as expected, but the surprise is that it’s several cuts above B-movie standard in the acting department, and the script (based on a stageplay) is literate and clever without being too smugly ironic. Beach or no beach, its mix of kooky, crazy and sexy will liven up any party.
