Iris
Aroview: Moving biopic of British novelist Iris Murdoch and her journey from literary genius to the mental wilderness of Alzheimers, that unquestionably rests on three great performances, though is perhaps too unambitious to be great in itself.
Kate Winslet, chameleon-like, conveys the writer’s entry into fame and love, with Judi Dench brilliantly carrying the role into her later decline – both are excellent, though it was Jim Broadbent who got the Oscar gong as Best Supporting Actor, playing Murdoch’s husband, upon whose memoirs the script was based.
