La Spagnola
Aroview: Drawing on the dir.’s experiences as an immigrant Spaniard in 1960s Australia, this colourful tale of revenge centres round a tempestuous mother/daughter pair (Lola Marceli/Alice Ansara) struggling in the wake of desertion by husband/father Simon Palomaros. Verging at times on crazed burlesque, the ribald, flavoursome humour is balanced by quietly dramatic moments which nourish its ultimately serious intentions.
