Watermelon Woman, The

Aroview: Unusual and amusing story of a young, black lesbian would-be film-maker whose life, involving a ‘controversial’ romance with a white woman, begins to strangely mirror that of her documentary subject - an obscure 1930s actress known as the ‘Watermelon Woman’.

Film-within-a-film format delivers both a rough-hewn semi-autobiography of a likeable personality and an imaginative pastiche of race, gender, romance and history.
