Teenage Caveman
Aroview: The highlight of a ‘Creature Feature’ series that updates drive-in fare of yesteryear, this delirious slab of camp set in a post-apocalyptic teenage wasteland proves an unlikely yet fertile match for the hedonistic fixations of controversial director Larry Clark.
A band of semi-clad young cave dwellers escape the oppression of the tribe to find unlimited freedoms at a hi-tech ‘sanctuary’ where the kinky, flamboyant hosts introduce them to sex, drugs, designer underwear and a chance at eternal life. In an age of market-tested, air-brushed teenage fare, fans of the ‘incredibly strange’ will celebrate Richard Hillman’s manic Machiavellian performance, a great schlock-industrial soundtrack, and a monstrous finale (courtesy of Stan Winston) that, for a change, doesn’t feel like a cheap cop out.
