Aroview: What started out as an amateur documentary by two French brothers about the New York Fire Department turns into a vital, ground’s-eye view of the attacks on the World Trade Centre as a result of fateful timing and the unprecedented access allowed by ultra-portable digital equipment.
Achieves a rare perspective initially presenting fire-fighting culture in all its banality as zealous rookies and sobered veterans kill time waiting for “the big one”, while hindsight brings about an unbearable irony and tension. Then following this investment in the ‘human face’, the disaster itself is captured literally from the eye of the storm, yielding images surely among the most astonishing ever recorded.
