Aroview: Snubbed as a serious romantic partner because he is a plumber, Martin Donovan decides to masquerade as a film director in order to attract women and up his “perception factor”.

Not knowing the first thing about film-making, he ‘directs’ a film by proxy (cue Cyrano De Bergerac homage), taking his literal cues from the ambitious screenwriter (and eligible bachelorette), Mary-Louise Parker. Filled with slightly smug film industry in-jokes, the unlikely romantic comic scenario and class war satire could have worked better if the lead (archetypal preppie Donovan) was more convincingly blue collar.
