Aroview: Lee Evans (better known as a standup comic) gives a standout performance as the manic, disgruntled patriarch of a disastrous Hatfield family – the Martins – who finally snaps when he fails to win a ‘dream holiday’ through the local paper.

Bringing together expletive-laced gags with a Loach-ian critique of poverty, this creates its own comic ambience that leaves one finally with a sneaking affection for the titular clan.
