Aroview: Maniacal scientist Maximilian Schell plans to dive into a vast ‘black hole’ in space - this is the compelling idea of one of Disney’s live-action films, featuring memorable f/x and forgettable characters.

The cosmos makes an excellent widescreen backdrop for the shenanigans of the excellent cast as they try to reason with Schell (or goad him on). Ambitious, but disappointing.

3 stars (Good Enough) It has curiosity value looking back on it from 40 years on - especially the special effects. Reasonably entertaining thanks to the robots. ~Tubbs
