Arabian Nights
Aroview: For the final part of his “Trilogy of Life”, Pasolini interweaves several of the tales of the ‘Thousand and One Nights’, played mainly for their elements of erotic tragedy and farce.
Perhaps the least ‘magical’ of the many versions, this uses wonderful locations –Morroco, Yemen and Nepal – to spin a different kind of fairytale atmosphere, rooted in the exotic landscapes, faces and music of Africa and Asia. Though not without its flaws, incl. some clumsy special f/x, this impresses with its narrative mastery and untroubled sense of sexuality.
