Imitation of Life
Aroview: Douglas Sirk's famed melodrama of American ambition and racism is justly renowned for the surprisingly bitter commentary buried within its involving tale of a friendship which crosses the colour bar.
Juanita Moore is a black maidservant employed by career-driven actress Lana Turner, whose daughter tries to pass a white woman. Sirk's final Hollywood film remakes a 1934 film (with Claudette Colbert) but with a more subtle and constant emphasis on the social hypocrisies of America.
