Yi Yi
Aroview: Masterful cinema - a drama that loosely surveys a middle-class family in contemporary Taipei, encompassing a wealth of human observation across three generations.
With novelistic delicacy and complexity, characters intertwine with their personal and professional doubts, others are overcome by illness and, most memorably, a young boy embarks on a photographic quest to show the "half of things that people don't see" - a metaphor for the film itself. Photographed with subtle grace and an eye for the unforgiving urban surfaces of the modern metropolis.
