Mighty Wind, A
Aroview: Writer-director Christopher Guest and his repertory of actors return for another cheerful send-up of an American subculture – this time 60s folk music – made in their signature ‘mock-u-mentary’ style.
Adhering to the formula of the petty preparations that lead up to a performance event, here it is a memorial concert that reconvenes three of folk music history’s super-groups, “The New Main Street Singers“, ”The Folksmen” and “Mitch & Mickey”. More rarefied in subject than its predecessors, the joke isn’t perhaps as obvious or as fertile this time out though by now the entire cast are each masters of deadpan delivery. With the highlights mainly of a musical variety (hokey yet catchy and accomplished), this is less likely to directly tickle the funny bone than it is to leave you with a broad, sustained grin.
