Aroview: A Canadian-Afghani journalist travels incognito into the heart of wartorn Afghanistan to find her sister.

Filmed at the height of the Tailban's oppressive regime, this is something of a window into the lives of the general population, registering many absurd and horrific images of destruction and suffering. Though the blend of fiction and documentary is unsettling and heavy-handed at times (partly due to the nature of the surreptitious production), this finally conveys an impressive sense of urgency.

4 stars (Very Good) Haunting illus. Afghan life 20 years ago when Taliban came. Shows US invasion achieved nothing. Makhmalbaf's abstract style used as in Gabbeh. The last day of school for girls for a generation. Canadian-Afghan Nafas enters as fake 4th wife & caught. ~Anon
