Master and Commander - The Far Side of the World
Aroview: Vivid sea-chase yarn, set during the Napoleonic Wars, with Crowe commanding the screen as the sympathetic captain of a British frigate outgunned by a French warship.
Based on the historical novels by Patrick O'Brian, this tempers its grand action scenes on the high seas with a tangible below-decks realism and some adroit character conflicts, though the planks of the story creak throughout. Beautifully crafted however, this still stands as an eminent nautical thriller.

3 stars (Good Enough) A real attempt has been made to get the props and the way of life on board right - a commendable effort. The action sequences are well done but unusually do not dominate the film. Excellent musical score particularly over the end credits. ~Tubbs
4 stars (Very Good) Vividly captures the Aubrey-Maturin novels. Peter Weir absolutely transports you into the Napoleonic War era British Navy and a journey to the Pacific. ~bikewrench
