Aroview: Probably the most visually distinguished Merchant-Ivory film, this semi-satiric swirl through the 'Bollywood' film industry works as both light melodrama and cinematic homage.

Though its central tale of a destructive love-affair doesn't quite match up to the setting, fine details abound, not least in a series of spectacular musical numbers in the finest Indian tradition!
