Only the Strong Survive
Aroview: Warm and intelligent appreciation of several of the soul-music legends of the 1960s and 70s by a veteran documentary team.
Based around a series of presentday concerts by singers like Rufus and Carla Thomas, Isaac Hayes, Mary Wilson, Sam Moore and Wilson Pickett, this brings personal history up to date with a disarming, humourous and, in some cases, quite moving honesty (Moore recounting his experiences are alone reason enough to see this movie). Also features, as you'd expect, plenty of great music, while never gratingly overselling its merits as in the recent STANDING IN THE SHADOWS OF MOTOWN.
