Wisconsin Death Trip
Aroview: A deadpan, quietly unsettling documentary that charts 10 years of creeping misfortune at the end of the 19th century in the small Midwest town of Black River Falls.
Constructed from newspaper accounts of epidemics, failed harvests, famine, madness and the occasional ghost, this delivers its measured tale through beautiful black-and-white photography and somber voiceover (by Ian Holm).

4 stars (Very Good) An American Gothic oddity; subject matter ranging from the absurd to the abominable is exquistely filmed for mood rather than narrative, and it plays, and lingers, like a dream (or a history class co-taught by Nick Cave and Garrison Keillor... seriously). ~fairbrother
