Aroview: A visceral depiction of Jesus Christ's final day before being crucified, this controversial work from devout Christian Mel Gibson is bluntly literal, gruesome, yet garishly powerful.
Perhaps the most blood-drenched version of a bible story brought to screen, this begins with Jesus' (Caviezel) arrest by Jewish police and steadily lays on the increasing torture and suffering of the Messiah up to the Cross and beyond. Not an easy watch, or even necessarily a great film, but certainly one bound to provoke thought and discussion on the nature and source of religious feeling (and fervour) - in itself, probably not such a bad outcome.

4 stars (Very Good) A very powerful film with some of the most brutal (and they say accurate) scenes of torture and crucification. I'm sure Mel has taken some liberties, but this is the film to see about Jesus's final hours. ~Tom H
3 stars (Good Enough) Very difficult to rate, considering the graphic violence & controversy surrounding the director. Part of me thinks it was over-the-top & guilty of too much shock factor, but there's no denying the powerful message that lingers long after the credits roll ~GenXGirl
2 stars (Good Try) Obviously influenced by "Life of Brian" (1979). ~Tubbs
