Invincible

UK / Germany 2002, 135 minutes
Dir. Werner Herzog
Rating: [M]
Genres: Drama / Independent

Topics: Period 1930s.

Aroview: An interesting treatment of the lives of the (secretly) Jewish strongman Zishe Breitbart and nightclub impressario Erik Jan Hanussen (Roth), who together cast a strange influence over pre-Nazi Germany.

Off-centre enough to convey the uneasy existence of innocents in a swirling, dangerous era, this ultimately misses the human tragedy of their situation, though is saved somewhat by its fable-like tone.
