Last Days of Pompeii / City of Metropolis
Aroview: Two dubbed 'spaghetti epics' from the heyday of the 1950s and 1960s:
The Last Days of Pompeii (1959) Directed by Mario Bonnard - Above-average sandal epic based on the novel by Edward Bulwer-Lytton in which a legionnaire (Reeves) returns to Pompeii just before its eruption. Assistant director Sergio Leone completed this troubled production.
The Giant of Metropolis (1961) Directed by Umberto Scarpelli - A cheesy, yet unique sandal actioner in which a lone hero enters a strange, futuristic city (modelled on Atlantis) warning the inhabitants of the consequences of their scientific experiments.
