Mother, The
Aroview: An unforgettable British drama about an aging widow, alienated from her ambitious son and neurotic daughter, who confronts the vacuum of her life after her husband dies, and finds passion regained in an unlikely relationship with a much younger tradesman.
Full of nuance, compassion and bitter truth about middle class family and social anxieties, this is superbly written by Hanif Kureishi (in one of his best screenplays), directed with grace and acted to a fault, with particular kudos to Anne Reid, whose honest performance is a rare and generous gift.
