Letters to Ali

Australia 2004, 106 minutes
Dir. Clara Law
Rating: [M]
Genres: Documentary

Topics: Indigenous & Minority Cultures, Politics.

Aroview: Devastating story of a 15-yr old Afghani boy refugee, 'detained' for several years in Australia under its harsh immigrant regime in a remote prison camp, and the efforts of an Australian family to adopt him out of detention.

Although a little ragged, this doco presents the family's efforts in all their hope, frustration and fatigue, as they journey across the continent to visit 'Ali' (a pseudonym). Also includes several interviews (including with former-PM Malcolm Fraser) and some unusual filmic techniques.
