Alfie
Aroview: Slicked back remake of the Michael Caine original, here translated to contemporary Manhattan, with Jude Law playing the Cockney skirt-chaser on a moped who slowly comes to learn the numerous errors of his ways.
Although considerably more faint-hearted in depicting the dark-edged chauvinist cynicism of its title character, Law manages a cocksure charm all his own, while the plot doesn't skimp on important points. But any attempt to capture the ironies of sexual politics in the 21st century, post-AIDS, post-feminism era are left safely undeveloped - think of this as a nostalgic throwback set in the presentday.
