Order, The - From Cremaster 3
Aroview: The climactic half-hour of artist Matthew Barney's 5-part 'Cremaster' series, a challenging excursion into surrealistic imagery whose a disturbing air of artifice and imaginative, cryptic tableaux are uniquely his own.
'Cremaster 3' is, according to Barney's peculiar logic, the final film of the series, and depicts (in part) a strange running duel between the dir. and sculptor Richard Serra on the roofs of New York icons such as the Chrysler Building and Guggenheim Museum. Throw in amputees, girl pop-groups, antique-car derbys, and secreting body parts, and you will get some measure of the lunatic vision of the artist at the helm.
'The Order' consists of the short final sequence, set in the vaselined interior of the Guggenheim. The sequence can also be watched from different angles, in a replication of its original art gallery installation with a hexagonal screening arrangement.
Note: At present, this is the only release planned from the 'Cremaster' Series.
