Orwell Rolls in his Grave

USA 2003, 84 minutes
Dir. Robert Kane Pappas
Rating: [Exempt]
Genres: Documentary

Topics: Media, Politics.

Aroview: Although made on a shoestring, this documentary about the state of Western media holds its own with FAHRENHEIT 9/11 and OUTFOXED in terms of bleak power to inform and disturb.

Using a range of experts and amateurs, including Michael Moore, Vincent Bugliosi, Danny Schecter and more, this compares the present media conglomerates like CNN, Fox and CBS to the infamous 'Ministry of Truth', devised by George Orwell for his dystopian novel 1984. While predestined to find parallels, dir. Pappas maintains a sober tone in examining numerous tales of conflict of interest, political interference and self-censorship, building an impressive case for change.
