Wicker Man, The
Aroview: Remake of the 1970s horror classic plays with fire by making women the centre of the island cult, while the scares fall flat as dir. Labute’s typically economical shot setups and lighting betray the style that comes with the genre.
An anonymous letter leads Nic Cage to the isolated town of Summersisle, a society based on tradition and sacrifice who do anything for the promise of a good crop. The queen ruler of the island (Ellen Burstyn), has a few tricks to ensure this year will be a success and as Cage probes deeper and deeper into the community his search leads him (literally) into treacherous waters. The big secret though, is a flammable hundred feet tall body crafted of woven straw that he must confront in the films fiery climax.

2 stars (Good Try) A hysterical bull in a china shop pounces on a small isolated community. No wonder he ends up on a bonfire. ~Tubbs
