Aroview: Stirring dramatisation of the true story of 18th-century abolitionist William Wilberforce and his revolt against Britain’s slave trade.

Made to commemorate the bicentennial celebrations of the Parliamentary bill outlawing the slave trade, the film looks at the extremely heated moral and ideological debates that occurred over the issue. Wilberforce is marvellously brought to life by Ioan Gruffudd, full of rhetoric, frustration and passion. While it is all arguably a little historically reductive, this is overall a handsomely mounted portrait of a renowned revolutionary.
