“Pawel Pawlikowski's latest film, is bittersweet and unbearably lovely, a sad ballad of two lovers who can't stand to stay apart but also sometimes can't stand each other either.”~The Hollywood Reporter

Aroview: The director of 'Ida' (2013) follows up with a deeply romantic, immaculately composed tale of a Polish concert pianist and a charismatic singer who fall in love but who ultimately find themselves stranded on either side of the Iron Curtain.

Inspired by the lives of the director's own parents, it uses virtuosic black-and-white cinematography and an extraordinary soundtrack to signify the passage of time and shifting relationships through fifteen years across Warsaw, Berlin, Paris and Yugoslavia.
