William Yang: Friends of Dorothy
Aroview: Documentary celebrating gay culture and history in Australia, written and presented by renowned Australian-Chinese photographer William Yang.
Beginning with the unprecedented cultural shift of the early 70's which saw the formation of gay activist culture, the film then explores the commercialisation of the gay scene in the 80's, the AIDS epidemic, and the Gay Mardi Gras, a festival which has survived despite going bankrupt in the early 2000's. Yang proves himself to be a brilliant presenter, having spent a long career photographing and writing about issues of cultural and sexual identity. A magnificent journey through 3 and a half decades of gay culture in Australia.
