Mission: Impossible 2
Aroview: Submerging all traces of the original series, Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt, whose mission it is to keep a deadly synthetic virus out of the hands of psychotic megalomaniac, Dougray Scott.
Though more coherent than the first one, the John Woo trademarks (slo-mo, fetishistic violence, unfeasible stunts, quaint romanticism) here play more like a clone of a Woo movie rather than the genuine article. Like a poor-man's FACE/OFF, it trades on a gimmick that allows good and evil to chop and change 'faces' - Scooby-Doo style. Exotic extras include the Sydney Harbour and posh babe, Thandie Newton.

2 stars (Good Try) John Woo brings us his over the top vision for Mission Impossible with some ridiculous (yet admittedly cool-looking) stunts, twists, and a revamped theme. Fun despite its obvious flaws. ~Tom H
2 stars (Good Try) Great opening shot of a rock climber & scenery until the camera focus's on Cruises nostrils & sets the tone for the rest of the film. As is the norm for this kind of film the only interesting character is the villain and Scott is fine in this regard. ~Tubbs
