Bleeder

Denmark 1999, 94 minutes
Dir. Nicolas Winding Refn
In Danish with English subtitles
Genres: Foreign Cinema, Drama

Feat. Kim Bodnia

Aroview: Hard-nosed drama about a brooding man who turns destructive when he learns of his girlfriend’s pregnancy in lower-middle-class Copenhagen.

With characters floating around a video store where one of them works, this correlates fictional and real-life violence while combining aspirations as a bleak social study with obligations as a ‘men-with-guns’ exploitation film. Fairly compelling, even if it only manages give an impression of its characters plight, and doesn’t quite bring about a sympathetic tragedy.
