Alamo, The

USA 2004, 136 minutes
Dir. John Lee Hancock
Rating: [M]
Genres: Action/Adventure / Western

Topics: Period - 1800s.

Aroview: Big-budget recasting of the fabled 'Battle of the Alamo' in 1836 between Texan (US) and Mexican forces, which marked a turning point in national destinies.

Given a talky, not unthoughtful slant in this revisionist version, with the iconic heroes Jim Bowie (Patric), Sam Houston (Quaid) and Davy Crockett (Thornton) worrying out their motives, anxities and the meaning of it all. Climaxes in a brilliant setpiece battle, though is sluggish in the buildup.
