Aroview: Fact-based story of a Californian high school basketball coach (Jackson) who brought a fresh approach to motivating his young players, garnering nationwide headlines when he refused to let them play in a championship match because of poor grades.

Although seemingly a repeat of THE BLACKBOARD JUNGLE, this in fact throws some fresh riffs into the mix, with a central challenge to the high valuation of sporting success to poor African-Americans. Although displaying the expected preachiness the film benefits enormously from Jackson's ferocious presence, and those in the mood for an uplifting message will relish the ride.

2 stars (Good Try) It is another basketball film with a pontificating coach but not all basketball films have Samuel L Jackson. However all his good work is undone by the film being at least a half hour too long. ~Tubbs
