Aroview: Angular and grim prequel explores the origins of brooding superhero Batman, here played by Christian Bale, from the childhood trauma of millionaire Bruce Wayne through his recruitment into the vigilante ninja group 'League of Shadows' lead by Liam Neeson.
Helmed by the dir. of MEMENTO, this works complexity and cerebral emotion into the generally fierce action mix, still based on The Bat's desires for mass retribution, but enacted into a densely dystopian vision of Gotham City complete with a new set of wordly villains. Precisely the shot-in-the-arm this flagging Hollywood franchise needed (officially this is the 5th film in the series), and despite some obvious weak links, such as Katie Holmes, this might well be the best of the crusaders cinematic outings yet.

4 stars (Very Good) Rebooting the Batman franchise, Nolan does a fantastic job of portraying a gritty and often realistic Gotham city complete with origin story. Just enough fantasy elements, and easily the best Batman since Burton's 1989 film. ~Tom H
2 stars (Good Try) It oozes acting talent (deliberately so - see Making Of) but its not a film requiring great acting. The only real highlights are the depiction of Gotham City. ~Tubbs
4 stars (Very Good) Batman begins is a film I like, it Rebooted the franchise, after the abysmal Batman & Robin, it's a film that I think is find but I'm not a fan of the first half of the movie. ~Wyatt Earp
