Upside of Anger, The
Aroview: After being deserted by her husband, a resentful suburban Mom (Allen) turns to the bottle and the arms of her neighbour (Costner), an ex-sportsman on the decline, while her four rebellious daughters try to steer her back into life's main stream.
With many scenes spilling over with self-pity and bitter humour, this has a thoroughly adult tone, remaining diverting and polished throughout. Critics have been divided over the abrupt final twist, yet it does strike a note of sour irony fully in keeping with the preceding portrait of middle-class discontent.

3 stars (Good Enough) Good story well told - Mike Bender does well in a support role but then there is Joan Allen (say no more). ~Tubbs
4 stars (Very Good) Beautifully done all 'round. Top marks for Binder's writing and direction, and the cast is excellent. ~HiFi
