Undertow
Aroview: Southern Gothic melodrama from dir. Green (GEORGE WASHINGTON) who here applies his off-centre visual tics to a story of family inheritances, teenage hijinks and miasmic swampland moodiness.
A widower (Mulroney) tends his pig farm with the help of his two teenage sons, but the release of a malevolent brother from prison (Lucas) leads with fairy-tale logic to a nightmarish journey across a decrepit junkyard landscape of rural Georgia. Although Green's cinematic mannerisms have divided audiences, this is perhaps more effective for its driving narrative, even while concluding with disarming abruptness.
