One Night in Mongkok

Aroview: A bespectacled 'Mainland' Chinese man is recruited for the assassination of a triad boss in the lusciously seedy Hong Kong district of Mongkok, but all goes awry when he decides to help a prostitute caught in the crossfire.

Sombrely toned, with visuals that emphasise a rainy nighttime world, this should impress fans of Johnny To with its similar thoughtful characters and lack of buffoonery. Although violence is infrequent, it posseses a rare ferocity.
