Stage Beauty
Aroview: An unusual delve into the gender politics of English theatre in the Restoration period of the 1660s, when King Charles II (Everett) decided to end the practice of men appearing in drag as female characters.
Mainly set around two characters, the last such drag-artist (Crudup) and the first female actress (Danes), who also happens to previously be his cross-dressing dresser... Plotted around a delirious range of camp, role-switching moments, despite the odd fumble, this mostly has the dialogue and bawdy wit to match its conceit. Based on a play by Jeffrey Hatcher.
