In My Country
Aroview: One of the first stabs at dramatising the Truth and Reconciliation Commission hearings in South Africa, here used as a grueling backdrop for romance between a Afrikaner poet (Binoche) and a visiting black American journalist (Jackson).
While certainly airing some emotionally moving testimonies from the Apartheid era, and meditating on the nature of forgiveness, this finally is seen to retreat behind the insipid sentiments of its love story.
