Fingersmith
Aroview: BBC teledrama set around a girlish pickpocket (Hawkins) in Victorian London who becomes involved in a nasty plan to defraud a wealthy heiress (Cassidy) by having her committed to the madhouse. However, she finds herself falling in love with her instead...
Ripely melodramatic tale has a well-developed Dickensian atmosphere and comes off much better than other adaptations of Sarah Water's lesbian-inflected period novels, such as TIPPING THE VELVET.

4 stars (Very Good) Pacey & gripping. Amazing twists, but a bit melodramatic. Better than Downton Abbey or Jane Austen movies - a better story. 2 parts, but incomprehensible series change typical of British DVDs. No wonder they can't Brexit! Good on class differences. ~Sandy
