The life and adventures of an idealist school-teacher, this was Dickens' damning indictment of England's educational system. Filmed at the Old Vic theatre with much of the original stage cast, this enthralling TV adaptation painstakingly recreates the magic of Trevor Nunn's original artistic vision, that employed 400 costumes, a 1000-page script, and adopted a unique system of moveable plinths to achieve the necessary camera angles and movements.
