Aroview: A thoughtful dramatic meditation on race and fate in modern-day America, in which a group of urbanites in Los Angeles find their lives 'crash'-ing together after an accident with a raft of unforeseen consequences and upheavals.
Bound together by a spectacular multi-racial cast, dir. Haggis manages to entangle his plotlines with unfussy skill and a certain visual simplicity, effectively driving home his honest, and sometimes surprising messages about bigotry and societal stereotyping: Bullock and Cheadle stand out in particular as a bitchy housewife and world-weary detective. If the subtexts looms overtly large and unsubtle this retains a melodramatic power which has seen it widely praised.

5 stars (Exceptional) Although very Hollywood, with an A-list cast, this is a thought-provoking film of racial tension, with some heart-felt and heart-wrenching moments that may leave you teary-eyed. ~Tom H
4 stars (Very Good) ambitious and incisive, if slightly emotionally manipulative in places. ~ravioliwonton
