With famously stark visuals, this combines her daily sufferings in a prison cell, with courtroom dialogue that is almost poetic. A devastating execution scene concludes its uncompromising narrative. With the non-actress of Florence Delay in the lead this has a mesmerising and undemonstrative purity.
