Loveless, The
Aroview: A brooding, fetishised love-letter to the motorcycle movies of the 1950s (THE WILD ONE et al), with a bike gang having a troubled interlude in small town enroute to the Daytona races.
The slight narrative is chiefly used to support an ultra-stylish and lingering fascination with leather clothing, gleaming chrome, polished belt buckles and bryl-creemed haircuts, with sexual undertones and coldly-depicted violent outbursts looking forward to the universe of BLUE VELVET and TWIN PEAKS (co-director Montgomery later worked with Lynch). With both Dafoe and dir. Bigelow also making debuts, this is a cult indie with major historic importance!
